Correct a memory, and why the old value is kept

Editing supersedes rather than overwrites. The previous value stays in history, and 'as of' questions still work.

A correction keeps the old value answerable

Facts change: the excess goes up, you move, a client renames. When you correct a memory, JustOnce supersedes the old value instead of deleting it.

How to correct

  • Assistant: "Actually the excess is $750 now — update that." It calls update_memory with the whole corrected statement.

  • App: open the memory, click Edit, change the text, click Save.

The edit form on a memory

Pass the whole corrected statement, not just the changed words: the title, category and extracted facts are rebuilt from the new wording, so a fragment records a fragment.

What's kept

Every memory records two timelines — when a value was true and when JustOnce believed it. After a correction:

  • the current answer is the new value;

  • "what was my excess in March?" still answers with the old one;

  • the memory's History lists every wording it has had.

History is visible to the memory's creator and to Editors/Owners of a space it's shared into. Each correction is also logged in the Ledger of whoever made it.
